Dental Crowns, Bridges, and Veneers: Can Patients Still Get Invisalign?

February 7, 2026

Dental restorations like crowns, bridges, and veneers are more common than ever. At the same time, clear aligners such as Invisalign have become one of the most popular ways to straighten teeth discreetly. It’s natural to wonder whether these two treatments can work together.

If you already have dental work, the good news is that you may still be able to straighten your teeth with clear aligners. However, the answer depends on a few important factors, including the type of restoration you have and how your teeth need to move.

How Invisalign Moves Teeth

Invisalign works by using a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners that gradually shift your teeth into better alignment. Each aligner is worn for about one to two weeks before moving on to the next set.

The aligners apply gentle, controlled pressure to specific teeth. Over time, this pressure guides the teeth into their ideal positions. Because the system relies on careful planning and gradual movement, your dentist must evaluate your current dental work to ensure everything can move safely and effectively.

What Happens If You Have Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are one of the most common restorations, and in many cases, they do not prevent Invisalign treatment. Since crowns cover the visible portion of a tooth but still sit on a natural root, the tooth can usually still move during orthodontic treatment.

However, crowns can sometimes present minor challenges. Invisalign often uses small attachments placed on certain teeth to help guide movement. These attachments may bond differently to crown materials than they do to natural enamel. Your dentist will determine whether attachments will work properly on crowned teeth.

Overall, many patients with crowns successfully complete Invisalign treatment.

Can Invisalign Work With Veneers?

Veneers are thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of teeth to improve their appearance. Because they are primarily cosmetic restorations, they may require extra planning during orthodontic treatment.

Teeth with veneers can often still be moved with Invisalign, but dentists must carefully consider how the aligners will interact with the veneer surface. In some cases, attachments may not bond as easily to porcelain as they do to natural enamel.

If your veneers are in good condition and your alignment needs are moderate, Invisalign may still be a great option.

What About Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges replace one or more missing teeth by connecting artificial teeth to crowns placed on the neighboring teeth. Because multiple teeth are connected as a single unit, bridges can limit how those teeth move.

This means that Invisalign may not be able to move the teeth supporting the bridge independently. However, that doesn’t necessarily rule out treatment entirely. Your dentist may still be able to adjust the surrounding teeth or develop a customized plan that works around the bridge.

Every case is different, which is why a professional evaluation is essential.

Why a Personalized Consultation Matters

Orthodontic treatment is always customized to the individual patient, and this becomes especially important if you already have dental restorations.

Your dentist will examine your crowns, veneers, or bridges, evaluate your bite, and determine whether Invisalign can safely achieve your desired results. In some cases, minor adjustments to your treatment plan may be necessary, but many patients with existing dental work are still excellent candidates for clear aligners.

With the right planning, it’s often possible to enjoy both a healthy restoration and a beautifully aligned smile. A consultation is the best way to find out what options are available for your unique smile.
