Your Roadmap to Getting Implant Dentures: How Long It Takes

If you are missing all your teeth, then you might be looking for ways to get a full smile once again. Dentures might seem like a great choice as they can restore many structures at once, while dental implants might entice you because of their reliability. However, you can combine these services and get the best of both worlds. That said, you might wonder how long it will take to get them. Here’s the general timeline for getting implant dentures.

What’s The Implant Dentures Process?

This tooth replacement is broken down into four different steps. It’s important you go through each one to ensure you have a successful treatment. This is what you should know about each part:

  • Consultation: Your dentist will want to make sure you’re a good candidate first. They will look at your jawbone density, oral health, and overall well-being. If there is anything that may cause complications, they will be treated and handled before going on to the next step.
  • Placement Surgery: After you are cleared to get this treatment, you will have four to six implant posts inserted into your jaw.
  • Osseointegration: During your recovery, the fixtures will fuse to your mouth as bone tissue grows around them. Once it’s all done, you will have impressions taken.
  • Attaching Your Dentures: Your final restoration will be designed and crafted with you in mind. It will be secured down, and you are all set to show off your new, full smile.

So, How Long Do Implant Dentures Take?

In short, the entire treatment timeline above can take anywhere from six months to a year. You will need to fully finish each step before you move on, so it’s a very thorough process.

The reason it’s this long is partly due to the consultation. Your preliminary services can add to the overall length. As an example, if you need a bone graft to reinforce your jawbone, then healing from that can take three to six months.

A bulk of the wait for your restored smile is because of the osseointegration step as well. Just like the procedure above, it can take up to six months until the implant is fused properly.

Are Implant Dentures Worth It?

Since you won’t get your results from implant dentures until fairly well after you start, you might wonder if they really are worth it. However, they still very much are. You won’t need to worry about any slippage as your prosthetic is anchored down. This also gives you up to 90% of your original bite back, so you can munch on your favorite foods with greater ease.

Your face will also stay full as the posts stimulate your jaw, preventing wrinkles and sunken cheeks, which are common with missing teeth. That way, you feel confident showing off your restored smile and know the time it took only helped you in the end.
